Tek-Bok Governing Bodies Chart Sector’s Region I Direction to 2010

Higher employment rate of TekBok graduates. Quality Tek-Bok institutions offering market-driven courses. Institutionalization of TekBok in local development programs. Apostleship and advocacy for TekBok. Higher certification rate in assessment.

These were the identified strategic priorities of the Regional and Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Committees (R/PTESDCs) for the years 2008-2010 during their Strategic Planning Workshop held on May 15-16, 2008 at the Cabugao Beach Resort, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur. Under the law, the R/PTESDCs are mandated to coordinate and monitor the delivery of all skill development activities in the local level and are the highest policy-making and recommending bodies for Tek-Bok in the region.
Former TESDA Director General Edicio G. Dela Torre, President of the Education for Life Foundation, Inc., served as the resource person and facilitator of the Workshop. Aside from setting the sector’s priorities for the next three years, the activity seeks to sustain the operation of the TESDCs by inculcating among the Committee members a better understanding of their responsibility and authority in harmonizing and rationalizing all Tek-Bok efforts in their jurisdiction. It also endeavors to elicit the commitment of the Committees in pursuing a pro-active and responsive Tek-Bok sector for the region.
The R/PTESDCs will be formulating their specific action plans focusing on the priorities.
Ilocos Sur Governor Deogracias Victor B. Savellano, the Chairperson of the Ilocos-Pangasinan Regional Development Council, graced the Workshop and pledged his support to the undertakings of the Committees. The R/PTESDCs are a cross-section of representatives from the government, labor,Tek-Bok and industry sectors.
Inputs in the Workshop included presentations on the National TVET (Technical-Vocational Education and Training) Situationer by TESDA Regional Director Washington M. Agustin, Regional TVET Situationer by Ilocos Sur Provincial Director Gemma Q. Rendon, and the Regional Development Agenda by National Economic and Development Authority Regional Director Leonardo N. Quitos, Jr.
